Lovely in White

I've been a Home & Interior Design buff since I can remember.
When I was in 7th grade, I remember I had a sleep over at my friends home who lived
in quite the neighborhood & quite the house.
I of course asked for a tour, of the at least 8,000 sq ft beauty, and fell in love with design.

I grew up going to the Parade of Homes here in Utah. This is an event that takes place in several different counties all over the state, and you get the privilege of touring new construction & sometimes remodeled homes that are fully designed and landscaped. In most cases the homes are for sale, but some have already been sold. I've been able to change and develop my vast design style through the years by being able to view these amazing homes. I get more excited for the Parade of Homes than Disneyland.

Over the past year I've changed my design style quite a bit...
I used to love dark rustic cabinets, dark hardwoods, and would decorate in reds & greens...
That's typical Utah style for ya. Although, I still do love green, I've had a change of heart in other areas.

This post is about white kitchens. I love the feel they have, the cleanliness, and the brightness. White cabinets and counters will make any color pop & makes cleaning messes a breeze, since you will almost always be able to see it. I also feel white is timeless & you can always update the hardware for a fresh modern look.

See some of my inspiration below...

I love these floors! And especially that they are painted hardwood. Beaut!

How cute & fresh does this white kitchen look with that pop of mint?

So I know this isn't all white, but I think it has a similar feel. I love the moderness & coziness of it.

I LOVE this. My favorite color is orange, and I love how it pops against the white.

Gorgeous, that marble is gorgeous. The end.

Amazing, however that plant needs to find another home...

Such a pretty feel, love the subway tile.

I'm pretty sure this kitchen is magical. I'd just bake cupcakes and blend milkshakes all day!
I mean seriously adorable. That scalloped range hood, love.

Happy Thursday!

Toddler room re-do

Well, with the coming year, I've got big plans for our house that is to be finished sometime this spring!
My son will be "graduating" from the crib to a big-boy bed, so it's only appropriate that his whole room will be revamped. I fell in love with these quirky art prints, and found some coordinating accessories with a vintage- circus vibe (hopefully I can keep it masculine, that's my main concern!)
The ceiling is definitely going to be a project, but it could look so cool!
I'll post pics as the room progresses so stay tuned =)

Get Wrappin'!

I {heart} this time of year for many reasons, but I seriously love cute wrapping!
Here's some super fun ideas I know I'm going to implement in my wrapping this Christmas...

Love this Kate Spade ad, and LOVE that green box with that bow!

SPARKLES! I'm a fan of sparkles.

People, that's a lot of yarn... but I sure love the look.

What is there NOT to obsess about this???

So elegant, love.

Winter whites + texture = perfection.

Totally glammed up!

Now this is interesting... two gifts in one. Wrap with a scarf... Can't decide my feelings on this.

Wooden boxes? Yes please.

I hope this post left you with a little inspiration for wrapping this season. I know it's helped me. I have a lot of wrapping to do since my husband just asked if I could wrap all of my presents too...

Have a very merry Christmas!
XOXOXO

Flamestitch!

This is what I think:

If chevron

 And ikat
Exhibit B

Had a baby...

We'd get flamestitch!!!!
It's kinda crazy but can look very chic. And check out the possibilities!!

Bedding in all sorts of colors from UO

I am infatuated with these pillows from Furbish. They're silk and honestly they're sexy.
Etsy sells pillow covers too.. a more muted variety

Trays also from Furbish

Check out this wall! Talk about ambition... I think it's pretty rad.
(via apartment therapy)

Too scared to "flame up" your wall? (haha that doesn't sound quite right...)
Start small with cute gift bags from Elum Designs.
Fashion is jumping on board with fun dresses like this one by Nine West (found at Macy's)

This chair is awesome. "practically perfect in every way" ;)
This bedroom knocked my socks off! Love the touches of flamestitch

Nifty Gifties

I want to share a really inexpensive gift idea great for that person in your life who wants to be organized and stylish at the same time.  This is a beautiful dry erase calendar. It was super easy and really fun to make. I actually used everything I already had, except for the gold paint.

 Supplies:
1 frame with the glass
paint to refinish it how you like
material ( i love the rustic burlap against the gold, don't you?!)
paint to stencil the week days
permanent marker
freezer paper ( or a stencil of any type)
Ruler

I started by measuring a grid on the inside of the glass and drawing  lines with a permanent marker, leaving a larger gap at the top.

I then wrapped my burlap on the back cardboard part of the frame. After measuring the grid on the glass I was able to determine where to stencil my S M T W... (etc) onto the burlap. I did this using the freezer paper method that I blogged about here.

It was simple to cut the letters out of the freezer paper with my Cricuit but if you don't have one you can buy stencils at Joann's or any other craft store. Then, you simply assemble the frame like normal with the burlap wrapped on the board and the glass in front.

It's great because you can change the Calendar every month by simply using a dry erase marker on the front to write in the month and the dates. I love how it tricks the eye and almost looks like you wrote on the burlap! By the way, I wiped some dark stain over this  frame after I sprayed it gold to give it a lived-in aged feel.

I hope this helps take care of at least one person on your list. Now, all you have to worry about is how to pay for shipping! Aaaahhh that always drives me bonkers! Good luck, and please share any creative and inexpensive gift ideas that you have! Thanks,
